Firstly, Zhao Laijun warmly welcomed the arrival of Yangpu Juvenile Science Education Center and Shanghai Jianshe Junior High School. He introduced to them the USSTBS and the Labor Education Practice Base. He also elaborated on the importance of promoting youth labor education and popular science education through university laboratories.

Zhao Laijun delivered a welcoming speech

Then, Sun Qing introduced the purpose and significance of developing the practical activities of the labor education base, and gave details on the tasks of the 1357 Action Plan for building the National Primary and Secondary School Labor Education Experimental Zone. She hoped to focus on labor innovation, intelligence, and creativity by collaborating with USST, and then cultivating the Yangpu experimental zone of youth science & technology education and labor education. She looked forward to carrying out more meaningful collaboration in the future.

Sun Qing introduced the practical activities

Next, with the theme of Experience Intelligent Driving, Imagine Future Transportation, Wang Jiawen showcased the national transportation strategy, design and optimization of transportation systems, as well as the cutting-edge technology in intelligent transportation systems by demonstrating laboratory equipment.

Wang Jiawen delivered a thematic lecture

Finally, Wang Jiawen led the team to visit and experience the Transportation System Engineering Laboratory of USST. The students experienced the 3DOF driving simulation system and the two-vehicle interactive driving experimental system, which increased their practical knowledge and broadened their horizons in the field of traffic engineering.

The students experienced the driving systems

After the activity, the Yangpu Juvenile Science Education Center delegation visited the intelligent emergency management laboratory. Deputy Dean He Jianjia warmly welcomed the visitors and introduced the software and hardware equipment of the laboratory. Wang Jiawen demonstrated how intelligent emergency transportation systems are being used in Shanghai and Hangzhou. Huang Zhongyi, Academic Secretary of SIEM, showcased the self-developed VR evacuation experimental platform and intelligent evacuation indicators. Finally, the delegation also experienced a variety of experimental teaching scenarios such as interactive 3D display, group collaborative airport emergency rescue, exercise platform of multi-person collaboration in a large space, etc.

Sun Qing and others praised the Intelligent Emergency Laboratory for its role in scientific research and teaching, and suggested that we could cooperate to carry out science education for primary and secondary school students. The participating teachers discussed promoting primary and secondary education by taking advantage of university resources and developing future collaboration plans.

Visiting the laboratory

Through the labor education activities, students were able to comprehend the strategy for improving China’s transportation system, understand the significance of transportation system design and optimization, and experience cutting-edge intelligent transportation technology. This unique collaboration between middle schools and universities has established a solid foundation for nurturing innovative and practical-minded young individuals.
