Prof. Zheng Jinrong, Director of the China Outsourcing Institute of the PRC Ministry of Commerce, delivered a Lecture to the Faculty and Students of Business School

On September 8th, Prof. Zheng Jinrong, a member of the USSTBS Strategy and Development Advisory Board and director of China Outsourcing Institute (COI) of the PRC Ministry of Commerce, delivered a lecture titled The Connotation, Current Situation, and Trends of Digital Trade to the faculty and students of our school. The lecture was presided over by Prof. Zhao Laijun, Dean of the Business School. Prof. He Jianjia, Deputy Dean, Zhou Yang, Deputy Director of the Department of Business Administration, as well as nearly 350 faculty and students, attended the lecture. The lecture was organized by the Department of Business Administration (China-U.S. cooperation program).

At first, Zhao Laijun warmly welcomed Zheng Jinrong's arrival and introduced his research fields and academic experience.

Then, Zheng Jinrong conducted an in-depth analysis of digital trade, discussing its connotation and extension, development status and characteristics, development trends, challenges and relevant thoughts. Given the new challenges such as trade tensions between China and the US, the passing of the CHIPS for America Act, and global supply chain reconfiguration, he proposed that we should think about how to manage development and security issues, how to deal with the risks of supply chain reconfiguration, and how to engage in drawing up international rules. After the lecture, the attending faculty and students discussed with Zheng Jinrong on how to obtain specific research data.

At last, Zhao Laijun expressed gratitude to Prof. Zheng for delivering the wonderful lecture at his Alma Mater. He encouraged students to learn from excellent alumnus Prof. Zheng by combining practical experience, conducting solid research, and giving back to USST and Business School.

In terms of scientific research, Zheng Jinrong has presided over 1 state-level research project, more than 10 provincial and ministerial level projects, and more than 20 local-level projects; he presided over and participated in the compilation of 15 government reports, presided over 16 research projects of PRC Ministry of Commerce and more than 30 local research projects; he published more than 50 research papers in important academic journals and international/domestic conferences, such as Management World, Chinese Journal of Management, Journal of International Economic Cooperation, R&D Management, Journal of Systems &Management and other important academic journals, and published 2 monographs. He presided over the compilation of Report on Development of China’s Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation (2016-2017), Report on Development of China’s Outsourcing (2012-2015), Report on Shanghai Digital Trade Development (2021, 2022), jointly compiled E-commerce Development in China (2016-2021). He won the third prize of the National Commerce Development Research Achievement Award, the second and third prizes of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and was rated as a job achievements model of the PRC Ministry of Commerce.
