They sent a message to students: setting clear goals and striving for them is the key to improve their strength. They should make career plans and even life plans in advance, and do not spend their youth in confusion; establish the concept of lifelong learning, practice and read more, improve all aspects of ability, especially organizational ability and thinking ability, on the premise of doing well in school.

Interview with alumni

Interview with Feng Qiyuan

Q: Hello Mr. Feng! It's a great honor to have you to accept our interview during your busy schedule. I am a graduate student of BS.

Feng Qiyuan: Hello! Very young!

Q: I heard that you were enrolled in 1991. Which course do you like most about your accounting major? Why?

Feng Qiyuan: Looking back 30 years ago, I was interested in Western Economics at that time, because Western Economics was a relatively new discipline.

Q: What impressed you most about people or things during the four years of study and life in the university? For example, which student, which teacher, etc.

Feng Qiyuan: Teacher Zhang Gengsheng has helped me a lot. When I was at school, I followed Mr. Zhang to participate in many audit internships outside the school. Because I was admitted to Shanghai from my hometown in Shandong, and I didn't know much about the outside world, I followed the teacher to work, study, practice, and so on since my junior year. Only with these experiences can I learn more purposefully. This photo was recorded by the teacher Wu Yuanbiao, the head teacher at that time. Mr. Wu was very strict. Now I want to thank the teacher at that time!

Q: What do you think of the fact that your accounting 911 class produced three representatives of the municipal people's congress at the same time? How excellent the students in your class are!

Feng Qiyuan: This is a chance. Our classmates didn't know about each other before, but only knew about it at the preparatory meeting. It can be said that the three people in our class have taken three completely different paths, which is a hundred flowers in bloom. However, at that time, our class was full of learning energy, which should be one of the reasons.

Q: What was the learning atmosphere of your class at that time?

Feng Qiyuan: The learning atmosphere in our class is very good. Several of our classmates go to the classroom to occupy their seats as soon as they study by themselves in the evening. In retrospect, it is a very beautiful and lovely thing. It is more active to grab self-study in the evening than in the morning. Another example is the English course. Although our students' English level is uneven, especially in oral English, some interesting things often happened at that time. However, the English teacher, Zhu Qi, had high requirements for our English. The students took CET 4 in the first year and CET 6 in the second year. They met the same requirements as the students in the English Department, which was also very helpful for our future study.

Q: Why did you choose this major at that time? What other things do you think college students should do besides study?

Feng Qiyuan: I first chose the major of system science. I changed to the major of accounting by chance. Now I think this major is very good. It is very helpful to study economics after studying accounting. It will be helpful to analyze the company's economic information, understand the laws of economic development, and learn finance and statistics. I think it is necessary to establish a concept of lifelong learning. Don't think that you can relax when you go to college. You should also pay close attention to your study in college. You should learn more about the situation of society, practice more and read more. Understanding the society will make your study more targeted and motivated. As far as my current situation is concerned, as a deputy to the People's Congress, I found that I have come into contact with a new area of knowledge, so I should start to learn new things, lifelong learning, and constantly improve myself.

Q: How did you plan your college life at that time?

Feng Qiyuan: In the first two years, I was also a little confused. Half a year after I went to school, I relied on work-study to maintain my life. I worked as a tutor and an auditor. In order to earn some living expenses, of course, it was also a driving force. In addition, I often go to the library to read books and learn more, which will help my own planning.

Q: What qualities do you think college students should have? For example, on the topic of Red Classic Culture, we find that college students are not paying much attention to this topic.

Feng Qiyuan: First of all, it is patriotism. Family and the world. We learn for the country and also for the family. The country provides us with learning conditions, so we should have a heart of gratitude and serve the motherland. Patriotism is a very important quality. Serving the motherland is also equivalent to serving the family; Second, we should have the tenacious willpower and persist in what we want to do; Third, we should have self-confidence. So how to cultivate self-confidence. First of all, find out what you are good at and gain confidence from it. On the other hand, you need to do things that are not interesting. At least you need to master the basics, and you need to learn the necessary skills. Otherwise, when you want to learn, you will find that you lack a lot of skills. It is very hard to learn, and you will be hit. Having a certain foundation of all kinds of knowledge, even if you change your career in the future, you will also find that you have strong adaptability and can learn by analogy.

Q: In the eyes of seniors, what is the profound influence of USST on you?

Feng Qiyuan: USST has a great influence on me. After graduation, many fellow townsmen have returned to their hometown in Shandong. I thought I must stay in Shanghai at that time. Later, I found that everything I contacted in Shanghai was different. Although it was very hard to work at the beginning, it is worthwhile thinking about it now!

Q: Have you paid attention to the development of the school and university in recent years? What good suggestions do you have for the construction of your alma mater?

Feng Qiyuan: I understand that USST is leading in photon research, energy power, system science, medical equipment and other aspects, and has made certain achievements in enterprise cooperation. At that time, the Shanghai Institute of Machinery, Hujiang City Business School was still in the early stage of its establishment. In order to build our brand, our teachers and students worked very hard, so I think it is the key to improve our strength to set a clear goal and strive for it.

Q: According to the work report made by the city leaders to the congress, which aspects of Shanghai's construction achievements do you care most about? What is your current job? What are the development opportunities for your current work in the future construction of Shanghai?

Feng Qiyuan: I am interested in scientific and technological innovation, which is also the key point in enterprises. Without innovation, enterprises will have no development momentum. Now is an era of fierce competition. Not only enterprises, but also our people, will be eliminated soon without learning. At present, I am responsible for internal management in the group, including system, quality and safety. Before 2018, I was the chief financial officer. Later, I found that I learned enterprise management from a new perspective. I used to look at the enterprise from an economic perspective, but now I look at the enterprise management from a system perspective, and have a more comprehensive understanding of the company's operation. Our unit is currently doing research on quality management, which is also related to scientific research and innovation. The improvement of quality depends on scientific research and innovation. Understanding scientific research and innovation can also better understand the dynamics of various industries.

Q: OK, thank you very much for accepting this interview. I hope you can come to visit the alma meter more often and have a good life.

Feng Qiyuan: OK, good bye.

Interview with Alumni Li Jiao

Q: I heard that you were enrolled in 1991. Which course do you like most about your accounting major? Why?

Li Jiao: The two courses I was impressed with were English and computer. The teacher is strict with us and attaches great importance to English. Nowadays, students' general English level is better than ours at that time. And a teacher Zhang read our English and math scores in advance. I think he is forward-looking. He believes that accounting and computer majors will develop well in the future. In addition, it is the professional course of accounting. I like to listen to Mr. Sha Yixin's class very much, who was about the same age as us, and it was easy to get together.

Q: What impressed you most about your four years of study and life in university?

Li Jiao: After four years of college, I think the beautiful campus environment has left a deep impression on me. First of all, as soon as I entered the school, I felt that the campus was particularly beautiful. At that time, we lived in the only girls' dormitory in the school. It was a new building built of bricks. I feel that the campus environment is very good on the way to class every day. Now I think it is still a baptism of beauty. In addition, when I was in the fourth year of college, I was lucky to take a class from a group of teachers who had learned from abroad, including the daughter of Mr. Liu Zhanen. The elegant and dignified temperament of the teachers deeply affected me. Among them, I was deeply impressed by a teacher who taught international trade. He was very calm and flexible in everything he did, and he was also knowledgeable. He not only had a deep impact on us in professional courses, but also affected us in various fields such as art and humanities. These teachers have opened a window for us and opened our international vision. Another impressive thing is the dance hall of our school. At that time, next to the statue of Chairman Mao, there was a dance hall contracted by our school students. Teachers and students from other universities would come to the dance hall for entertainment and leisure.

Q: What do you think of the fact that your accounting 911 class produced three representatives of the municipal people's congress at the same time? How excellent the students in your class are!

Li Jiao: I think it's quite coincident, because there is a certain selection range for deputies to the Municipal People's Congress. I don't know exactly what industry they are engaged in, but there are more than 800 deputies to the People's Congress.  This is beyond my expectation. When I heard that there were two classmates who were also representatives of the Municipal People's Congress, I was surprised. In any case, it is really difficult. After all, deputies to the People's Congress represent the people and perform the function of managing the country. At present, I am familiar with this role. As far as I understand, the People's Congress delegate is not only a title. I am thinking about how to reposition myself, how to integrate this role with my work, and how to allocate time. In a word, I think it's very good. It happens that I have a new starting point at the age of 50, and my life will always change a little.

Q: What else do you think college students should do in addition to learning? Or how should we plan our college life for these four years?

Li Jiao: I think the four years of study in university is still short, mainly depends on how you define learning. Everyone wants to get a high score. For example, for students majoring in accounting, we did not systematically learn accounting knowledge at that time, and we also experienced a period of twists and turns in accounting reform. Personally, I think that we should first carefully sort out the knowledge, then expand it, and read more books. For example, accounting is closely related to economy, economy is closely related to politics, and politics will eventually move towards philosophy. In addition, I think we can make a small plan for a year. For example, we will read two books related to a certain field this year. You may not have much interest at the beginning, but when you look back a few years later, you will have different feelings. Knowledge is by analogy. When you look back at the books you have read and learned, you will find it particularly interesting. In addition to learning, I suggest you cultivate some hobbies. We may not be able to participate in various interest classes such as piano and calligraphy as you are now. I encourage you to visit more libraries, museums and art galleries. I think Shanghai Museum is a good choice. I visit it three times a year. At the beginning, you may not understand why to look at these things, but I think the nourishment of these arts will have a great impact on how you look at the world or how you look at problems. As you grow older, you may find it more useful.

Q: In your eyes, what kind of university do you think USST is? What far-reaching impact does it have on you?

Li Jiao: Anyway, USST is my alma mater. At that time, USST was the first batch of universities for students to apply, but the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics was the second batch. I put USST behind DUFE, so everyone in my family thought that I would go to DUFE. I didn't expect that Mr. Zhang, who was recruiting students, would retrieve my file in advance. At that time, the college entrance examination scores in our class were quite different, with a score difference of 100 points. Some students with high scores could go to Fudan and Jiaotong University. They may feel more aggrieved because they all want to enter a relatively better school. But I didn't have this idea. I wanted to come to Shanghai at that time. I liked Shanghai. When I filled in my college application, I changed to USST. The teacher said that you should change it. I didn't discuss with my parents and changed it. Of course, I think the university is really beautiful. When I first entered the university, my dormitory was at the innermost, and I went from the beginning to the end. I like the beautiful scenery of the campus very much. Maybe I’m sentimental. I think it's good. And I like this school.

Q: Have you noticed the development of the BS in recent years? Do you have any suggestions for the construction of BS or the university?

Li Jiao: Today I just heard the speech of the secretary of the Party Committee of the university. I heard the overall plan of the university. I think first of all, I applied for the accounting major at that time, and I didn't have any knowledge of accounting, but my parents thought that accounting should be used in all fields, and I think that's what I think now, and accounting can be transferred to any direction. At that time, we had students wearing work clothes. Those students were going to the factory. Our university was also famous for refrigeration. Now I think the university's dominant discipline is optics. The future market of China will vigorously develop the real economy, so I think students of accounting can go to the direction of the real economy. The transformation of accounting is inevitable, and its future development will become more and more intelligent, such as accounting computerization. After learning the basic knowledge of accounting, there may be a process of intelligent transformation. For example, if you are in the tax direction, you need to pay attention to the changes in the national tax system; In terms of financial direction, you need to pay attention to financial technology. I think the real economy is developing continuously. I think it can turn to the direction of management accounting combined with engineering. It is impossible to give USST 985 and 211 now. Since USST is featured, the BS of USST should also feature the combination of engineering and management, and cross disciplines to go outward together. In fact, because there were fewer college students in those years, I felt that the major was more important than the school, but now there are more and more college students, and maybe the importance of the school will be greater than the major, so everyone began to pay attention to the school. In the past two years, affected by the epidemic, some non-large state-owned enterprises, even the overall economic situation is not very good. I think it is also good to find a small area to develop. I remember that we had a friend at that time, who was in an average university in other places. After graduation, he chose the field of sewage treatment. Nobody expected that an ordinary Taiwan-funded enterprise he joined had become bigger and bigger. With the development of a city, sewage must be treated. The company continues to grow and become the standard of the industry, so that local government departments invite the company, and even the whole country invites the company. Slowly, the company may be listed. So I think we should pay attention to the peak competition and think about it in many ways.

Q: According to the work report made by the city leaders to the congress, which aspects of Shanghai's construction achievements do you care most about?

Li Jiao: I will look at it from several angles. First of all, I think as a citizen of Shanghai, I will pay attention to what Shanghai is like. Second, as a representative of the People's Congress, I will consider how to manage the city from the subjective perspective of Shanghai. I think from the current perspective, Shanghai's urban positioning level is relatively high. If Shanghai hopes to become a city with world influence, its positioning will be higher. For example, it will take the path of technological innovation, develop high-end industries, and allocate resources globally. At present, the government work report has not been officially released. After it is released, I suggest you read the government work report. After you read it, you will find the development direction and orientation of the city in the next five years. Your development must be consistent with the development trend. For example, everyone said that looking at the stock market, the stock market and the economic market is actually looking at the development trend. Where do you think it will go in the next five years, your development direction should follow. If it is moving towards these fields, you can expand to the fields of your future major or study. In fact, in our daily work, we should expand our level first, and then choose the right field. In urban life, as the people of Shanghai, you will pay attention to the urban construction of Shanghai. We can see that all the banks of the Huangpu River are now open and can go from the beginning to the end. The Suzhou River is also basically open. I think the river along Pudong is still being opened, and its overall positioning is a spiritual concept of cultural integration. In this city, you can enjoy both traditional Chinese culture and Shanghai culture, which are improving the quality of our life.

Q: What is your specific work now?

Li Jiao: What I have been doing is bank supervision.

Q: Are there any development opportunities for your current work in the future construction of Shanghai?

Li Jiao: Because of the continuous development of the financial industry, financial regulators are needed. I will carefully read the government work report. I will carefully read the government work report. If there is a need for development in some areas, we will also cooperate and support the development direction of the municipal government. We will also encourage banks to invest in these areas. At the same time, we will also focus on inclusive finance and green finance.

Interview with Zhang Xiqiang

Q: Hello. I'm a graduate student of USST, your alma mater. I'm glad to talk with you. I want to interview you after hearing your excellent deeds.

Zhang Xiqiang: Hello, young blood from my alma mater. Let's start.

Q: I heard that you entered USST in 1991, right?

Zhang Xiqiang: Yes, that's right.

Q: I know you were studying accounting at that time. Now you look back on your study of accounting at that time. Is there anything that has benefited you a lot?

Zhang Xiqiang: Logical thinking.

Q: I agree with your idea. In fact, my undergraduate major is also accounting. For those accounting knowledge, I find it difficult to understand at first. However, as a management major, accounting certainly provides me the training of logical thinking. Can you tell me about your 4-year study life in the university?

Zhang Xiqiang: I studied hard at school at that time, so I got good grades and won a scholarship. I also served as the monitor of our class and trained my ability of organization and coordination.

Q: What else impressed you? For example, communication with classmates, or cultural and sports activities.

Zhang Xiqiang: College extracurricular activities in the 1990s were relatively rich, such as sports activities and art festivals. Since most of our classes are students from other provinces, we also organized some group outings on a regular basis.

Q: Do you remember what was around our school in those days? Was the Jungong Road Tunnel completed at that time?

Zhang Xiqiang: At that time, there was no tunnel or central elevated road, and the surrounding area of the school was relatively desolate.

Q: What do you think of the fact that there are three deputies at the same time in your accounting 911 class? How excellent the students in your class are!

Zhang Xiqiang: I think there are some coincidences, but I can't deny that many students in our class work very hard in their respective positions and do their own things well.

Q: In addition to learning, what else do you think college students should do when they are in college?

Zhang Xiqiang: I suggest that you take part in various social activities to exercise yourself, so as to improve your abilities in all aspects, especially organizational ability and thinking ability.

Q: So do you encourage college students to do more social practice?

Zhang Xiqiang: Yes, but we should also do well in our studies while carrying out social practice. We should not put the cart before the horse.

Q: Did you plan your career in advance when you were in college?

Zhang Xiqiang: Of course. It is recommended that college students make career plans and life plans in advance, and do not spend their youth in confusion.

Q: What kind of university do you think USST is?

Zhang Xiqiang: First of all, as you just said, the campus is beautiful. Secondly, the school has clear objectives and has trained and delivered suitable talents for the country.

Q: What do you think is the profound impact of USST on your life?

Zhang Xiqiang: If I hadn't studied at USST, I wouldn't be the same as I am today. I may study other things in other schools, or I may not study accounting. There may also be different career development and life experience.

Q: According to the work report made by the city leaders, which aspects of Shanghai's construction achievements do you care most about?

Zhang Xiqiang:I think Shanghai is still based on two points. Firstly, keep in mind the earnest request of the General Secretary Xi Jinping. Shanghai is a pioneer in reform, opening up, innovation and development. The second is Shanghai's real achievements in the economy, such as stabilizing employment, protecting the economy and expanding domestic demand. I think Shanghai has done a lot of real things in building an international metropolis.

Q: What are the development opportunities for your current work in the future construction of Shanghai?

Zhang Xiqiang: As the head of foreign enterprises in China, I am very happy to see that the country has made many good ideas and plans in attracting foreign investment and improving the business environment. In general, I think 2023 will definitely be a strong rebound year. We at Nestle will also take advantage of this trend to catch up and continue to grow stronger.

Q: Thank you for taking the time to chat with me for so long. Then I won't bother you. Have a good rest.

Zhang Xiqiang: Thank you. OK. Goodbye.

The alumni of the BS attending the session of the Municipal People's Congress also include Wang Haibo, an outstanding alumni, reporter, chief presenter of the Shanghai People's Radio and winner of the Golden Microphone Award.
