On November 27, the 6th Shanghai Engineering Management Innovation Competition was held online under the guidance of Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by Shanghai Engineering Management Society and organized by the Business School(BS) of University of Shanghai for Science & Technology(USST). With the theme of “Engineering Management and System Thinking”, the competition aimed to promote the innovation achievements in the field of engineering management, enhance the ability of postgraduates from Master of Engineering Management (MEM) in universities to solve practical problems in the field of engineering management, and provide a high-level, cross-industry and multi-dimensional academic exchange platform. Professor Shao Jungang (Shanghai Maritime University), Vice President of Shanghai Engineering Management Society acted as the head of the judge panel. Prof. Zhang Zheng, Vice Dean of BS-USST, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Prof. Zhang Zheng said in his speech that the competition could stimulate students in engineering management to have innovation sense, creative thinking, teamwork and solving complex engineering problems. He is hoping that the participants and engineering management practitioners can continue to improve the practical ability of engineering management centering the national major development strategies.
Through three-month promotion and preliminary selection, a total of 26 teams from nine universities entered the final round. The final round was in the form of contestant presenting, experts querying and oral defense by the contestants. The judges scored each project according to the criteria of significance, innovation, economic and social benefits, and standardization of the project. After fierce competition, seven teams won the first prize, eight teams won the second prize and 11 teams won the third prize.
At the annual conference of Shanghai Engineering Management Society held on 27th November, Prof. Geng Xiuli, Secretary General of the Society and Professor of BS-USST, read out the final results. The Sixth Shanghai Engineering Management Innovation Competition finished with applause. Shanghai Shanghai Engineering Management Society is responsible for promoting and disseminating innovation and scientific research achievements in engineering management. The Engineering Management Innovation Competition will be held regularly later on. It is hoped that more universities and enterprises will participate in the future.
