On November 26, 2022, Systems Engineering Society of China (SESC) awarded the “Science and Technology Award for Systems Science and Systems Engineering” in Dalian, China, and Prof. Che Hongan was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award”, along with Prof. Wang Hao from the National University of Defense Technology.
The “Lifetime Achievement Award” established by SESC is the highest award of the “Science and Technology Award for Systems Science and Systems Engineering”, which aims to recognize individuals who have made innovative achievements in the theory of systems science and systems engineering, or who have created significant social or economic benefits in the application of systems science and systems engineering. Prior winners include: Academician Liu Yuanzhang, Academician Wang Yingluo, Academician Wang Zhongtuo, Scientist Yu Jingyuan, Academician Chen Hanfu, Academician Dai Ruwei, Scientist Gu Jifa, Academician Yang Shanlin, and Professor Chen Xikang.
Prof. Che Hongan worked in education and research in systems science and systems engineering for a long time, persistently promoting the construction of the discipline of systems science and systems engineering in China, and actively promoting the growth and development of the Systems Engineering Society of China. He was the first director, the second and third executive director of SESC, and has been in charge of Education and Popularization Committee for a long time. He has worked diligently and achieved remarkably, and has been affirmed by Qian Xuesen, and received various awards, among which he was actually responsible for the compilation of the first textbook of Systems Science in China as associate editor. The book won the 13th China Book Award in 2002.
At the awarding ceremony, Prof. Che Hongan made a brief but profound speech:

It is a great encouragement from SESC and peers to award me the Lifetime Award today which I am not deserve. Thank you very much!
Since the beginning of 1978, I was honored to establish a major with three generations of faculites in Systems Science and Systems Engineering at University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. With the attention and guidance of predecessor Qian Xuesen and the support of my peers across the country, I accumulated experience over decades. I would like to express my thanks to SESC and our colleagues who have supported and helped us! In particular, I would like to thank Guo Lei and Gu Jifa of the Institute of System Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Fang Fukang and Di Zengru of Beijing Normal University for their support and help over the years!
In 1979 Qian Xuesen proposed to establish Systems Science, and in 1984 the Santa Fe Institute in the United States advocated complexity research, which is an innovative path in the same direction and has formed the frontier of scientific and technological development so far. The new era calls for the development of Systems Science, I should do my best with my comrades!
