In order to stir the enthusiasm of teachers to apply for funds, stimulate the vitality of scientific research, and expand research ideas, on November 4, the Business school held the 2023 National Social Science Application Academic Salon, the 36th event of a series of activities of the Hujiang Economics and Management Forum, in the report hall of the Second Conference Room on the fourth floor. Professor Qian Ying and Associate Professor Zhao Xin were invited to give a report and share their personal experience in funding application. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean He Jianjia, and Dean Zhao Laijun and more than 30 staff participated.
As the keynote speaker, Prof. Qian Ying made an in-depth analysis about topic selection and proposal writing on the spot. She pointed out that before determining the topic, we should carefully study the application guide of the National Social Science Fund, combine the major social problems confronted and concerned by the country with our own research work, find appropriate items to refine, and determine the topic. In terms of writing, it is necessary to write in strict accordance with the outline of the project design argument, covering every module proposed in the outline. Tell a good story around the central logic to show that the applicant has a deep understanding of the problem, has a good method to solve the problem, has a perfect research plan to address the problem, and has long-term and lasting research in this field, supported by research results. Highlight the key points, have a beautiful format, start writing early, finish writing early, listen to experts’ opinions and revise repeatedly.
Later, Zhao Xin shared her feelings and experiences of the grant application. She pointed out that the topic selection should be based on the current research frontier of the discipline, be forward-looking in solving problems, and reflect the development trend of the discipline, rather than a general retrospective study. Each part of the project design and demonstration should be carefully polished. A variety of opinions were widely adopted and constantly revised and improved.
Finally, Prof. He Jianjia reviewed the application of the National Social Science Fund of our school last year, compared the number of approved applications in the schools for economics and management of major universities in Shanghai horizontally, and made arrangements for relevant work. Zhao Laijun analyzed the application situation this year and refined the key points of the application from the perspective of experts. After the meeting, many teachers and guests had a warm discussion.
This meeting is the second salon for fund application this week, and the advice of guests and experts broadened the ideas for teachers to apply the fund. Subsequently, the school will move forward to conduct application guidance, create an exchange platform for teachers, encourage teachers to prepare for fund application in advance, and strive for a breakthrough in 2023.
