On the afternoon of October 29, on the occasion of 116th anniversary of the USST, the second meeting of the first MEM Alumni Council was successfully held online using Tencent. Prof. Ma Jingbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Business School of USST, Prof. Zhang Yongqing, Deputy Dean of the Business School and Deputy Director of the Professional Degree Education Center, Prof. Ye Chunming, Director of the MEM Program of the Professional Degree Education Center, Mr. Tian Peiqi, President of the MEM Alumni Association, Mr. Zhang Wei, Vice President, and 13 members of the MEM Alumni Council, as well as relevant teachers of the Professional Degree Education Center, attended the meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by Ms. Liu Juanjuan, director of MEM enrollment, and Ms. Xue Ying, secretary general of the MEM Alumni Association.
Zhang Yongqing made a speech at the beginning. On behalf of the school and the professional degree education center, he extended a warm welcome and whole-hearted thanks to all the leaders and alumni who came to the meeting during their busy schedule! He emphasized that the alumni council played an important role as a bridge in the communication and development between alumni and their alma mater, and promoted the enrollment, cultivation and development of professional degree programs, as well as the development of disciplines related to MEM programs. He said that the school will also give strong support to the work of the alumni association in the future. At the same time, four suggestions were put forward to the MEM alumni association directors: first, the school will provide information and resource to support the development of alumni career and alumni enterprises, as well as the improvement of alumni professional abilities, with the help of Shanghai Engineering Management Society. Secondly, he hoped that the Alumni Council can mobilize the majority of alumni to promote cross-border exchanges between various professional fields, MEM projects and other disciplines under the MEM program of the Business School so as to achieve the goal of resource sharing and mutual development of alumni. Third, the relevant professional teachers of the Business School can provide advisory services and technical guidance for the development of alumni personal career and enterprises through the platform of the Alumni Council. Fourth, the professional degree education center will publicize the development achievements of MEM alumni and their enterprises under the allowable conditions, which can also promote the development of the MEM project of the Business School. He wished that with the joint efforts of all directors, the work of MEM Alumni Council will be steadily promoted, and greater achievements will be accomplished next year.

Subsequently, Tian Peiqi made a speech. He said that under the guidance of alma mater, the first alumni association was established last year, which has built a bridge for alumni to communicate with the alma mater and the school, and built a platform for alumni to exchange information, share resources and connect with each other. The alumni council widely publicizes the achievements of the university and the school in scientific research, teaching and other aspects, encouraging alumni to continue their endeavor, exchange experience, strengthen cooperation, and create more fruitful results. In the future, the alumni will further strengthen the association and make the alumni council better and better.

Ye Chunming introduced the development of the Business School and the MEM project in the past year. He said that in recent years, the Business School has achieved fruitful results in talent cultivation, international certification, and scientific research. Meanwhile, the professional degree education center has also been expanding. At present, it has developed into a 7 professional degree program (7M) and applied talent cultivation system in 9 professional fields. Industrial engineering and Management, Logistics Engineering and Management have also joined MEM projects. In the process of MEM project development, every progress of MEM project was shared with alumni, such as various scientific research and teaching achievements made by teachers, and various awards made by students, so that everyone could fully sense the firm pace and solid results of MEM progress. He stressed that alumni are our valuable resources, and the development of MEM projects also depends on the support of alumni. He hoped to give full play to alumni resources and promote MEM projects. At the same time, he also hope to provide services for alumni to help the development of alumni and alumni enterprises through school enterprise cooperation, hire alumni to serve as external tutors for joint training, establish social practice bases, and invite alumni to give lectures and career guidance for students. MEM project development also needs to further develop new ideas, strengthen interaction with alumni, enhance the sense of belonging of alumni, promote resource sharing, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

At the alumni sharing session, the representatives of the alumni council had a heated discussion around the theme of how to further expand the influence of MEM projects, expand the cooperation between industry, university and research, and strengthen the interaction between enterprises and students in the post epidemic era. They also discussed and planed the work of MEM alumni association for the next year. All the members of the alumni council spoke actively, discussed enthusiastically, provided suggestions and made a lively atmosphere.
Ma Jingbo said in his concluding speech that the alumni work is also an important part of the school’s work. The alumni council is a bridge between alumni and the school, as well as among alumni. The alumni association should actively carry out its work to further deepen various exchanges and cooperation with the alma mater, fully pool the wisdom of our alumni, and promote resource sharing among alumni. The school will also continue to increase its support for the work of the alumni association, enhance their emotional recognition of the university and the school, and further refine, reduce and implement the alumni work. It is hoped that the members of the alumni association will have a sense of responsibility and mission, pay close attention to the development of their alma mater as always, and make suggestions and contributions to the talent cultivation and scientific research of the university and the school.
