On the afternoon of October 29, on the occasion of the 116th anniversary of the USST, the preparatory meeting for the general election of the MPA Alumni Council of USST was successfully held through an online meeting. Xin Yejun, President of the 2nd Council of MPA Alumni Association of USST, Liu Xinli, Vice President, Wang Wei, Honorary President of MPA Alumni Association, Guo Chunguang, Secretary General, and representatives of previous MPA Alumni Directors; Ma Jingbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Business School, Zhang Yongqing, Deputy Dean and Deputy Director of the Professional Degree Education Center, Che Liping, Director of the MPA Program, and relevant teachers of the Professional Degree Education Center attended the preparatory meeting. The meeting was chaired by Secretary General Guo Chunguang.
Wang Wei introduced the preparations for the general election of the alumni council, and described in detail the development process and recent situation of the MPA alumni council. She said that since the establishment of the first MPA Alumni Council on November 3, 2014, the structure of the Alumni Council has been very rational. The members of the Council cover all grades. As a platform to support the MPA talent cultivation of the Business School and gather MPA alumni, the MPA Alumni Council will further strengthen the organizational construction, continue to expand the alumni team, and further promote the development of the Alumni Council.
Wang Wei introduced the preparatory work for the general election
Xin Yejun summarized and reported the work done by the second MPA Council, including organizing alumni salon activities, donating materials to support USST to fight COVID-19 pandemic, and coordinating the environmental problems around USST. He said that in November 2021, his alma mater signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Municipal Government of Baoshan District. In this context, driven by the common goal, MPA Alumni Council coordinated and promoted the two sides to find the proper fitting point and starting point for innovative development, further deepen the cooperation between the district and the school in all aspect. Focusing on integration of industry, education and research, the commercialization of scientific results, talent cultivation, and etc., formed the integrated development of the campus, park, block and community so that Baoshan would become a vast space and fertile soil for the future development of USST. In the future, they will also publicize the essential case demonstration of mutual cooperation and progress, and fulfill the responsibility. Finally, he wished the MPA Alumni Council a complete success in its preparations for the new term.

At the session when the MPA Alumni Council exchange the progress of general election and suggestions for the future MPA Alumni Association, the alumni presented at the meeting made suggestions about the development of our school's MPA project and further exerting the advantages of our alumni. The alumni expressed their pride in the rapid development of the school, and said they would continue to work hard and support the development of the school within their capabilities, and repay the cultivation of their alma mater. The alumni pointed out that they should make full use of alumni resources to carry out online and offline learning and interactions in more areas; establish close ties between alumni based on relationship; provide excellent public management cases, etc. The alumni said that the Association will gather and exploit all the wisdom and strength of the alumni, do a solid job in the work of the alumni council, and strive to build the council into a link to connect the alumni and the alma mater, and enhance belongings, so as to jointly promote the development of the school and the alumni’s career.
Zhang Yongqing elaborated on how to develop the MPA project and do a good job of the alumni council in three aspects: first, strengthen the project features and labels. The MPA program of USST is aimed at cultivating high-level, application-oriented and comprehensive management talents for the district and community level management in Shanghai government, including outsourcing agencies and public institutions. It has expanded from the "top ten" featured fields to the "top eleven" featured fields. The MPA alumni cover all districts of Shanghai and the surrounding Yangtze River Delta regions. MPA students have a strong sense of cohesion and identity. Second, strengthen stereoscopic cultivation. Focus on the whole process of MPA students' application, enrollment, and graduation, and provides professional, standardized and effective education and training from theory to practice, from cases to the sites, and from domestic to international (exchange study). Third, strengthen multi-level services. It includes not only full guaranteed service for students' living and learning during the education in the professional degree education center, but also the professional support and professional services that the alma mater and the school provided based on the discipline advantages and faculty advantages in terms of the alumni personal career development and organizational development after they left the school. Gradually, subject learning and interactions activities will be carried out striving to play a role in both serving MPA students and supporting the development of alumni.
Zhang Yongqing especially emphasized the growth of the Business School and the professional degree education center. In recent years, great progress has been made and a "4+3+2" applied professional master training system has been formed.

Che Liping introduced in detail the development of the MPA program in the "last decade", and reviewed the progress of the MPA program in recent years from the aspects of MPA project overview, project advantages and features, student awards and career development, and outstanding alumni. Professor Che said that our school's MPA, relying on its professional discipline advantages, undertakes the important task of cultivating outstanding public management talents in the new era, will continue to adhere to the innovative management of public affair (MPA) training mode, and will continue to deliver more outstanding public management talents to government departments and other public institutions. She hoped that the alumni council will play a leading and bridging role and welcome alumni to come back and revisit the school often.

In his speech, Ma Jingbo expressed his whole-hearted thanks to all the alumni and colleagues who attended the meeting today, and said that the work of alumni is very important no matter from the practical aspects of the school or the future development requirements of the business. In the process of a school operation and growth, the school's alumni have provided great support and assistance to the school in all aspects. In terms of how to develop alumni resources to promote the development of alumni, the school, as a central linkage to effectively connects alumni, forms a wide range of information channels, enhances the feelings between alumni themselves and their alma mater, and promotes cooperation and coordination. At last, Secretary Ma said that he believed that with the joint efforts of all the alumni and the teachers and students of the Business School, the future would be better. He hoped that the majority of alumni would contact more, interact more, help each other and develop together.
