The Business School Held a Seminar on the Construction of First-class Undergraduate Programs

On August 25, the Business School held a seminar on the construction of first-class undergraduate programs. Vice Dean Zhang Zheng, directors of each department, leaders of incubation programs, faculty representatives and members of the Academic Affairs Office attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Vice Dean Zhang Zheng.

Shu Yiming, director of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office, introduced the background, main contents and expected goals of the first-class undergraduate construction programs of the Business School. Facing the challenges of the complex and changing external environment and the new requirements for the construction of new arts and new engineering disciplines, the school has been benchmarking with the 14th Five-Year Plan and the evaluation indicators, comprehensively strengthening the construction of curriculum, teaching materials, educational reform and innovation and entrepreneurship, and striving to explore new mechanisms to promote the construction of first-class undergraduate programs.

Prof. Ye Chunming shared the experience of effective building first-class teaching materials. He believes that teaching materials play an irreplaceable role in teaching and student cultivation. Writing teaching materials should focus on the completeness. The content of teaching materials should be advanced and mature. The case selection and exercise design should be rich. At the same time, we should contact and interaction with the publisher to create favorable conditions for the publication of teaching materials.

Associate Professor Liu Qinming pointed out that the construction of virtual simulation experimental courses should follow the basic principles that virtual and reality should be combined and complementing each other, focusing on stimulating student interest in learning; the topics selection should be appropriate to fully support the purpose of cultivate students' overall ability; the features and specialties of disciplines should be highlighted, and the advantages of virtual simulation technology should be brought into play; innovative and diverse teaching methods and teaching mechanisms of teacher-student interaction should be established.

Associate Professor Dang Yazheng introduced the experience of the course construction of Operations Research in detail, emphasizing that the course construction should implement the fundamental task of establishing moral education and make efforts in course for ideological and political education. The course design should not only focus on the teaching of knowledge points, but also inspire students to think positively; efforts should be made to explore the connotation of knowledge points, and the objectives of the course construction should be integrated into the whole teaching process.

Associate Professor Liu Weiwei shared his management experience in strengthening the first-class undergraduate construction. The Department of Traffic System Engineering takes the establishment of first-class undergraduate degree as the starting and standing point of teaching management, strives to build a well-structured faculty team of the old, the middle-aged and the young, forms a system of passing on and helping young teachers, encourages teachers to deeply-rooted into enterprises, and strengthens dual-teacher program. The department will strengthen the curriculum construction, include the latest professional development into daily teaching, advocate competition for teaching, and enhance students' innovation and entrepreneurial ability.

Associate Professor Wang Jiawen, as the representative of the incubation project, shared that he always held the philosophy of student-centered, output-oriented, and continuous improvement, and learned from experienced teachers, conducted research, made plans, and implemented carefully to achieve the goal of teaching project construction.

Finally, Vice Dean Zhang Zheng made a concluding speech and put forward requirements on the implementation and promotion of detailed work. It is hoped that each major will give a comprehensive consideration to the relevant work, and through teaching and research activities, continuously enhance the enthusiasm of teachers to participate in teaching construction, so as to form a virtuous cycle of first-class undergraduate construction.

The seminar further deepened the understanding on the situation and challenges facing the construction of first-class undergraduate programs and promoted the consensus on the goals, contents and paths of the construction, which is beneficial to the continuous improvement of the quality of the construction of first-class undergraduate programs and the continuous enhancement of the capacity and quality of undergraduate education.
